A welcome from your president!

Welcome to the Edinburgh University Feminist Society! My name is Tilda Glynn, my pronouns are she/her and I am this year's president.

The idea of a ‘Feminist Society’ is a bit daunting, given the extent to which feminism crosses so many areas of society. It can be found in social, political, economic, personal and environmental spheres, as well as so many others. In this way, this year we as a committee aim to explore the many ways in which feminism is and has been expressed from place to place and time to time. One of the ways in which we hope to do this is through our newly launched weekly discussion group where members can engage with others on the feminist questions of our time!

Intersectionality remains at the core of all the work that we do. Acknowledging other power structures at play within people’s identities is the only way in which we can effectively challenge oppressive systems. We hope to centre the voices of the marginalised and use our platform to raise them up.

I hope that you will all come to Femsoc events as well as the many socials we have planned! (of course our pottery painting socials will return…) We can always be found eating cake at our committee meetings on a Thursday! I also hope that Femsoc is a space where you all feel comfortable to share your thoughts and experiences, as well as get angry and feel inspired. I can’t wait to meet you!
